Item prices are US dollar prices with their source and date. Market prices refresh daily; the bitcoin price is live.
What things have cost in sats, month by month since bitcoin's data starts (Sep 2014). Over most long stretches, nearly everything got cheaper in sats. Not every stretch, though: the bumps are Bitcoin's crashes, and the table counts how often the cost went the other way. History, not a forecast.
How to read this (the honest version)
- It's mostly one fact, seen many ways. An item's price in sats is its dollar price divided by bitcoin's dollar price. When everything gets cheaper in sats, that's mostly bitcoin's price rising, not each item changing. 55 lines going down is not 55 proofs.
- Fixed windows, no cherry-picking. Every line starts in Sep 2014, where the bitcoin data starts. "Last 4 years" and "last year" are always the latest 48 and 12 months, whichever way they went. The last column counts every 4-year window where the cost went the other way.
- Lists picked by a rule, not by how bitcoin looks against them (each list says its rule). Nothing gets dropped for looking bad.
- The bumps are crashes. When bitcoin falls, things suddenly cost more sats. That's shown, not hidden.
- History, not a forecast. You still pay rent in your own currency, and bitcoin can fall 50% or more against it.
